The "History" of Paul Brandt

Paul Brandt is the most awarded male Canadian Country Music artist in history. Since his million-selling debut album “Calm Before The Storm”, his has been an unlikely journey of humble beginnings and big dreams to fame and stardom. It is an engaging story of a young man who followed his passion to make a difference in the lives of others using his musical ability. It has been a twisting road that has given him an audience with music legends, global leaders, royalty, and placed him on the world’s largest stages.

A former pediatric registered nurse, Brandt had a passion for words and poetry early in life, and began to write music at the age of 13. Greatly inspired by both the Gospel music he heard at the church his family attended, and by the Western heritage, tradition, and culture of 1980s Alberta, the music that he created immediately skewed towards a Singer/Songwriter style, and towards Country Music.

For as long as he can remember, Paul loved to sing and write poetry and music. He also had the goal of one day becoming a doctor. While reaching for his medical dreams during his college years, he started entering and winning talent competitions, one of which was the Youth Talent Showdown at the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. Brandt credits these contests as events that altered the course of his life.

Label executives began to take notice, and by the age of 21, Brandt had been signed to a seven-album deal with Warner/Reprise Records Nashville, alongside label-mates Faith Hill, Randy Travis, and more. By 1996, Brandt had become the first Canadian male country artist to reach the Billboard Top Ten in the US since Hank Snow in 1974, and a string of number one hits and gold and platinum albums followed.

Spurred on by an independent, entrepreneurial spirit, and his non-compromising artistic vision, in 2001 Brandt petitioned to be released from his contract, which was eventually granted by Reprise, and he formed an independent label called Brand-T Records. The move proved to be the right one for Brandt creatively and commercially. Each of the five albums released from 2002 until the current album “Give It Away” have been recognized by industry leaders with Album of the Year awards. The split from the label opened doors for Paul and his wife Elizabeth, whom he has been married to for 14 years, to realize the dream of putting down roots back in Alberta. Carried by the popularity of songs like “Leavin’”, “Alberta Bound”, “Didn’t Even See The Dust”, and his remake of the C.W. McCall classic “Convoy”, Paul’s life imitated his own music as the lines of his song “Alberta Bound” seemingly carried him from Nashville, Tennessee back to his birthplace of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Paul’s career came full circle in July 2012 in that once in a lifetime moment, reuniting him with The Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. Paul was proud to headline the sold-out Centennial Grandstand show called “Century” for all 10 days.

Paul continues to chart his career forward with new music. Just As I Am, his 11th studio album (released October 2012), features well-known Gospel songs. The album includes collaborations with artists including Patty Loveless, Ricky Skaggs, Dan Tyminski, John Anderson, The Whites, The Isaacs, Jon Randall Stewart and High Valley.

In addition to his many industry accolades and awards, Paul has an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts from the University of Lethbridge and an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Briercrest College and Seminary.

Along with his wife Liz and their two children Joseph and Lily, Paul is committed using his music as a platform to create a positive impact on the lives of people in communities around the world through the charitable foundation he has established. Paul and his family are also active with a number of international organizations close to his heart.

Faith, Hope and Love

Through a foundation started by Paul, money and awareness are being raised to help people around the world in practical ways. One of the foundation's activities have included the Paul Brandt's Build It Forward Television series which built homes and infrastructure projects for people at risk of homelessness in Canada, Mexico, and Haiti. Another project was a fund-raiser that brought in $175,000.00 to benefit the Town of Slave Lake, Alberta after the 2011 fire that devastated that community.

Paul's dream is that this foundation will someday stand on it's own, and change the lives of millions of people around the globe. By following the example of "loving your neighbour as yourself", we're excited to see where this foundation will take all of us together.

The Build It Forward Foundation exists to raise money and awareness to help people around the world in practical ways. The focus of the foundation is to raise funds and awareness of issues facing widows and orphans, the poorest of the poor, people who are often forgotten, and people in emergency need both in North America, and abroad. We encourage neighbours to help neighbours, and facilitate service opportunities and education about issues facing the world's poor. These activities are done in the example of Jesus Christ, and in the spirit of loving our neigbours as ourselves. In our activities and projects, we look for opportunities to gently and respectfully share the message of God's love through the good news of His son Jesus Christ.

Through the years, your support of Paul and his music has raised millions of dollars for worthwhile causes. Paul is thankful for the support he gets from you, and wants to use the blessings he's received to bless other people... find "a way to make love stay"... and "give it away"!

Further, Brandt has launched the “I AM HAITI BOUND” CONTEST, which will provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a fan to join him on a community development trip to Haiti later in 2013. All fans attending the Just As I Am tour will have the opportunity to enter the contest via Brandt’s Facebook page.

“The Build It Forward Foundation is committed to supporting initiatives here in Canada as well as offering support around the world to those who need it most,” explains Brandt. “My volunteer experiences abroad have been some of the most profound moments of my life, and I wanted to share the opportunity with a fan to help make a difference.”

Fans not attending the tour can still participate in the contest, being held in partnership with Café Xaragua, the first official product of Brandt’s Build It Forward Foundation.

Café Xaragua is a Calgary-based company founded by three entrepreneurs. Recognizing the opportunity to re-develop Haiti’s coffee growing business in a sustainable and responsible manner, Café Xaragua operates with fair-trade principles and provides economic opportunity - Café Xaragua plants a coffee tree in Haiti for every bag of coffee sold.

“We’re proud to be named an official product of Paul Brandt’s Build It Forward Foundation,” says Robert Lehnert, one of the founders of Café Xaragua. “We share a common desire to help make lives better in Haiti, building the community one step at a time in a fair and sustainable manner.”

Paul Brandt ready to “fly” at 2012 CCMA Awards in Saskatoon

Canadian Country music superstar Paul Brandt will be performing at the 30th annual Canadian Country Music Association Awards (CCMAs) taking place in Saskatoon, SK on Sunday, September 9, 2012. Further, as part of PotashCorp Country Music Week in Saskatoon, Brandt will be delivering a keynote address showcasing his entrepreneurial approach to his music, his brand and the business of music.

Nominated for two CCMA awards this year, including Album of the Year for Give It Away and CMT Video of the Year, also for Give It Away, Brandt will also have a special guest joining him on the green carpet prior to Sunday evening’s awards show.

Tobin Haas is a remarkable 12 year old country music fan, and will accompany Paul Brandt on the carpet and at the awards ceremony. Haas, who is a member of the Starlight Children's Foundation in Canada, has courageously battled cancer three times in his young life. Brandt, who is known for his ongoing philanthropic efforts, acknowledges that having Haas join him for the show is one way to make the youngster’s world a little brighter.

Says Brandt, “Tobin’s story is one of courage and strength. The opportunity to help give him a lift is a true privilege. I can’t decide who’s more thrilled about this – Tobin or me!”

Brandt is preparing to release his 11th studio album Just As I Am, in October. Country superstar heats up stages across Canada this summer

Canadian country music superstar Paul Brandt continues to gain momentum after 10 successful performances at this year’s Centennial Calgary Stampede. This month he will be performing at the Boots and Hearts Festival in Bowmanville, Ontario, to be quickly followed by a keynote address and performance at the Canadian Country Music Association Awards on September 9.

Over the course of the 10 night run of the Centennial Calgary Stampede Grandstand show called “Century”, Brandt performed for nearly 200,000 people, the highest attendance in history. The 2012 Calgary Stampede welcomed a staggering 1.4 million attendees this year. On August 12, Paul will be rocking out on stage in Bowmanville, Ontario at the first annual Boots and Hearts Music Festival with artists including Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw and Alabama. Boots and Hearts will be the largest international country music festival Canada has ever hosted.

“Playing a festival with top musical talent from around the world is always an honour,” says Brandt. “Canada has a huge Country music following, and this festival will be a great showcase of North American talent.”

On Sunday, September 9, 2012 Brandt will continue to delight the country at the 30th annual Canadian Country Music Awards in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He will be performing during the show, where he has been nominated for two awards. Brandt will also keynote “Building the Brandt: A Conversation with Paul Brandt” during Canadian Country Music Association’s Country Music Week leading up to the Awards.

We receive numerous requests each month, and make a concerted effort to accommodate as many requests as possible. All requests are given serious consideration. Organizations will be contacted by email if we are able to fulfill your request.

We are only accepting requests via our online form. All information must be filled out correctly or your request will be discarded.

The following conditions apply to all applicants:
