6.17.08 Paul is nominated for "Best of Alberta" Poll

PAUL BRANDT HAS BEEN NOMINATED....IT'S TIME TO CAST YOUR VOTE (calgaryherald.com/greatest)

All Albertans are invited to participate — and cast their votes — in a search to find the province's greatest citizen. In what is becoming the province's largest citizen journalism project, Albertans are determining which of their fellow residents is deserving of the title of "Greatest Citizen."

With the Calgary Herald celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, it launched a project called Best of Alberta: The Search for Our Greatest Citizen. The project — sponsored by EnCana — started with Albertans being asked to tell the newspaper who should be honoured with this title.

Hundreds of Albertans responded and their nominees have been used to compile a list of the top 125 Albertans. The list, released June 8, includes everyone from pioneers to politicians and athletes to artists. Who would you vote for? Wayne Gretzky or Jarome Iginla? Peter Lougheed or Ralph Klein? Paul Brandt or k.d. lang? Maybe you think Famous Five member Nellie McClung, pioneer cowboy John Ware or an Alberta soldier is more deserving?

Whatever your opinion is, we want to know what you think. Just go to calgaryherald.com/greatest for a complete list of nominees and vote anytime between June 8 and 26. See Herald site for voting details. Each time you vote you can also enter to win a fabulous weekend getaway at one of the Fairmont Hotels & Resorts in the Canadian Rockies (the Fairmont Banff Springs, Chateau Lake Louise or Jasper Park Lodge

The 10 Albertans from the list who get the most votes will be profiled in a special magazine that will be published in September. At that point, we’ll once again turn the decision-making over to Albertans. Their final vote will determine which individual should hold the title of Greatest Citizen.

4.07.08   Paul is a double winner at the JUNOs

Paul Brandt is a Double Winner at this Year's Juno Awards!! As if it wasn't cool enough to be presented with the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award by the wife of Canada's Prime Minister, Mrs. Laureen Harper, 'Risk' was also awarded Best Country Recording of the Year on last night's Juno Awards!!

Here is an excerpt from the Calgary Herald:

In a Juno weekend filled with glitz, glamour, parties and frivolity, there was one powerful moment that will be remembered long after everything else is forgotten.

Six months from now, few will recall who won what award, but none of the 500 people at the non-televised Junos on Saturday night will forget Paul Brandt's tearful and emotional acceptance speech when he received a humanitarian award for his charity work.

Brandt, the Calgary country music singer who once worked as a nurse at Alberta Children's Hospital, provided the only meaningful highlight of the night when he told the audience about some of the children he has encountered in the most desperate corners of the world
